Below you'll find some reviews on Pete
and on some of his music

Report by Brian Thornton 29th August 2010

....for the first time at the club we had Pete Redfern who I had not seen since his time with the exellent band, Daytona, many years ago.
Pete has a great voice and is a brilliant guitar player. Both were evident on the night.
He performed a brilliant mix of old and new Country, well sung and played and he gave everyone a fantastic night, keeping the audience entertained from first to last.
I will be looking out for Pete in the area again.....

Report - by Cyril Insley

27th April 2009 - PETE REDFERN

Making his debut at our club this evening, Pete gave us an excellent display of fine vocals and first class guitar playing.

He has always harboured a love of Country Music and performed songs of this genre with various combos including the duos "Pinto" and "Smith and Jones" and the band "Daytona".

Pete has also ventured into song writing with partner Allan Crookes and together they have released three CDs of self penned numbers.

Tonight he was here in his current capacity of solo artiste and soon won over our members with his easy rapport and great exposition of his musical ability.

The content of his show was an excellent mix of new and old Country including lots of songs new to us. Starting with the Lee Roy Parnell number "Crossing Over", he continued with Dwight Yoakam's "It Only Hurts Me When I Cry", one of his own compositions "Under The Moon", Steve Goodman's "City Of New Orleans", Tom Petty's "Walls", covered last year by Glen Campbell, Keith Urban's 2001 No. 1 hit "But For The Grace Of God" and several from the catalogue of one of my favourite singers, Dale Watson, "Ain't No Cow In Texas", Way Down Texas Way" and "Love At First Sight".

The more familiar classic Country examples featured Cal Smith's "Drinking Champagne", Hank Williams's "Crazy Heart", Ray Price's "Heartaches By The Number", Johnny Horton's "Honky Tonk Man", Ray Charles's "Take These Chains From My Heart", Charley Pride's "Is Anybody Going To San Antone" and to bring this super show to an end, Ronnie Milsap's "I Wouldn't Have Missed It For The World"! Every song produced appreciative applause from the audience; so it will come as no surprise if Pete is asked to give another concert at The Black Horse.

one more broken hearted man

……..then on to my pick of the album, "One More Broken Hearted Man" from Redfern & Crookes, which was nominated in the UK Country Radio Awards. This is one of those songs that stays in the mind. Sue Mcarthy of Southern Country Magazine, while reviewing a compilation album containing the track.....
